POSITION:                                           Domestic Violence Advocate  

SALARY:                                               $20/hr  

LOCATION:                                         Office of Victim Services

Classification:  Full-time, non-exempt, support staff, regular

DUTIES:

 

  • Evaluation of this position will be based primarily upon performance of the preceding requirements and duties.
  • Examples of job performance criteria include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Performs assigned duties.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records.
  • Maintain a secured office for the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program where clients can meet with the Advocate in a confidential manner and maintain their anonymity.
  • Will provide outreach to and meet with victims of domestic violence outside of the program’s office.
  • Maintain a separate confidential phone line with answering machine.
  • Coordinate and chair a Domestic Violence and Sexual Task Force.
  • Produce and Distribute outreach materials.
  • Develop all necessary recordkeeping forms.
  • Maintain confidential records
  • Compile statistics for funding agencies
  • Report to Funding Agencies as required
  • Procure Funding Sources and write grant applications
  • Provide Domestic Violence Training/Education
  • Supervise Program staff
  • Attend funding agency mandated Trainings/Conferences.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and trainings that will enhance the Director’s ability to perform her job.
  • Member of the Tribal Child Protection Team.
  • Provide in house staff trainings on confidentiality, crisis intervention, workplace domestic violence, and others as needed.
  • Be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for crisis intervention
  • Prepares and submits accurate and timely reports.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and trainings that will enhance the Director’s ability to perform her job.
  • Possess a valid Montana Driver’s license and dependable transportation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Must have a valid State of Montana Driver’s License
  • Pass a DMV background investigation
  • Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background investigation
  • Minimum of 2 years college education, preferably in the field of Social Services, Women’s Studies, or criminal justice.
  • 3-5 years work experience as an advocate/court advocate for victims of domestic violence
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with local community resources and Native American culture
  • Possess administrative, organizational, and grant writing skills
  • Ability to work a flexible 40 hour week with night and weekend work required on an as needed basis.
  • Willingness to travel in and out of the State of Montana
  • Willingness to be on-call 24hr/7day week.
  • Must submit to a background investigation for this position.
  • Priority for Selection of applicants for employment within the Chippewa Cree Tribe is as follows:
    • Qualified, honorably discharged (must show proof by submitting a DD 214 Certificate) veterans who are enrolled members of the Chippewa Cree Tribe;
    • Qualified enrolled members of the Chippewa Cree Tribe;
    • Other qualified Indians;
    • Qualified Non-Indians.
  • Testing: Subject to drug testing per Drug Ordinance 1-99.
