Classification: Support Staff, Regular, Full Time, Covered, Non-Exempt, Critical
Work hours consist of: Rotating Shifts, Weekends and Holidays

DUTIES:

  • Receives and transmits telephone radio messages to and from units operating in the field.
  • Answers incoming calls from the public regarding accidents, crimes, and other
    emergencies,
  • Determines urgency and nature of incoming calls and refers to appropriate unit or other agency;
  • Receives requests from officers on call and provides follow-up services to officers requesting additional information or personnel.
  • Receives cash and issues receipts for bonds or fines.
  • Maintains and records daily logs.
  • Dispatcher receives complaints from the public concerning crimes and police emergencies.
  • Types incident reports and will complete other duties as assigned.
  • Dispatcher receives complaints from the public concerning crimes and police emergencies.
  • Broadcasts orders to radio patrol units in the vicinity to investigate complaints and relays instructions or questions from remote control units.
  • Records all broadcasts and complaints received.
  • Locks individuals in cell upon completion of weapon, valuables or drug search.
  • Monitors and coordinates police unit activity communicating using radio
    frequencies;
  • Position may be stressful at times, individuals must be able to work under stressful situations.
  • Receives training and certification in CPR and first-aid;
  • Performs other duties related to position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid State of Montana Driver’s License, if out of state, must obtain Montana license with specified timer per departmental requirements.
  • Must have reliable form of transportation.
  • Must submit to a background investigation and annual physical examination. Must have no felony convictions.
  • If non-qualified dispatcher, must attend and satisfactorily complete training for
    dispatch at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy or Indian Academy Facility
    within one year of employment if funding is available.
  • Knowledge of radio communications
  • Knowledge of public service activity and methods of local tribal government.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and equipment, keyboardingskil1s.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement terminology and procedures.
  • Knowledge of geography for the Rocky Boy Indian Reservation and surrounding area.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting maps to determine locations and jurisdictional boundaries.
  • Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within six months of employment.
  • May require departmental certification in the use of non-lethal technologies (i.e. Taser, Pepper ball, O.C. spray, Baton, pin shield etc.) and weaponless defensive tactics course within one year of employment.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Priority for Selection of applicants for employment within the Chippewa Cree Tribe is as follows:
    • Qualified, honorably discharged (must show proof by submitting a DD 214 Certificate) veterans who are enrolled members of the Chippewa Cree Tribe;
    • Qualified enrolled members of the Chippewa Cree Tribe;
    • Other qualified Indians;
    • Qualified Non-Indians.
  • Testing: Subject to drug testing per Drug Ordinance 1-99.
